مسجد ميرا الجامع
A historic place of worship and a place of remembrance, standing at the heart of the community.
The Meera Grand Jummah Masjid, often known simply as the Meera Jumma Mosque, is one of Kattankudy's most significant places of worship. Beyond its role as a Friday congregational mosque, it carries a solemn place in the town's history, remembered as the site of a tragedy that the community has chosen never to forget.
At a glance
A long-standing congregational mosque at the centre of community life in Kattankudy.
Preserved marks within the mosque stand as a quiet memorial to those who were lost in 1990.
A testament to the endurance and quiet strength of the people of Kattankudy.
Best approached calmly and respectfully, as both a living mosque and a memorial.
For generations, the Meera Jumma Mosque has served as a central place of worship for the people of Kattankudy, drawing the largest gatherings for Friday prayers.
It remains an active and cherished part of daily life in the town today.

In August 1990, during the country's civil war, the mosque was the scene of a tragic attack on worshippers gathered for evening prayers. Many lives were lost, and the victims were laid to rest within the mosque grounds.
The event marked one of the most painful chapters in the region's history.

Today the mosque preserves marks from that night, kept deliberately as a memorial so the memory of those lost endures. For the community, it stands as a symbol of both grief and quiet resilience.
Visitors are welcomed in a spirit of reflection and respect.

A place where memory and faith are held side by side.
The Meera Jumma Mosque asks little of those who visit, only that they come with care for the lives it remembers.
